How We Got Started
He had us visit an alpaca farm in Astoria, OR; Alpacas At Tucker Creek. They had all the answers for the questions that we had, and believe me we had a lot of questions! Peggy and Dave made us feel so comfortable about starting our new adventure. My husband was sold. I on the other hand thought we better think about it before we purchase our first Alpaca. But no, he had already put it out there that we were going to buy 2 Alpacas that were pregnant and would have a cria later that year. I could have shot him for doing this without thinking!
We are now in our second year of raising Alpacas and enjoying every minute that we spend with them. It has been quite a learning process, but has been very fulfilling to our lives. It has been something that our entire family has been able to be involved with. As we continue raising these beautiful animals we go on learning more and more. We are a reproduction farm meaning that we continue to breed our animals to get closer to the “Ideal Alpaca”.
There are many resources for people who are interested and involved in the Alpaca industry. We recommend visiting farms, and talking to people whom already have a farm going. There are also a number of books and articles that can be helpful.
